Living in West Springs sure comes with a lot of privileges. Aside from all the excellent amenities and top Calgary schools that are close by, the neighbourhood is extremely close to some great winter recreational activities. Here are just a few of the top ones.
 

Take the family tubing at WinSport

Winsport's Tube Park is one of the fastest of its kind in all of western Canada. It features eight lanes of awesomeness and even has a magic carpet that will bring you and your tube back up to the top of the hill. How cool is that? Tickets for the tube park go on sale beginning December 1, and it's tentatively scheduled to open on December 19.
 

Head out to the Rocky Mountains for some skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing

Located on the west end of the city, West Springs is only a 45-minute drive away from the world-famous rocky mountains. Most ski hills are already open, thanks to the early dump of snow we got here in Alberta. With COVID-19 travel restrictions limiting the number of international visitors to Banff and Kananaskis this year, you and your family can take full advantage of the quieter conditions. 

If you or your family aren't into skiing or snowboarding, you can take the kids up to Banff National Park for some snowshoeing fun on of the many dedicated trails they have out there. You might just spark a lifelong passion for the activity in them.

Get tropical at Westside Recreation Centre's waterpark

Winter and snow are fun and all, but sometimes the family just needs a bit of a winter escape. Since travelling down to Mexico or heading over to Hawaii is not advisable or all that practical due to COVID-19, Westside Recreation Centre's Aquatic Park can provide the perfect warm winter respite for you and your family. 

The water park has a waterslide, wave pool, lazy river, hot tub, and steam room. There's even a dedicated tot pool for the little ones.

And if your family isn't quite tired of winter activities yet, Westside also has a leisure ice arena where you can take the kiddos skating and hang around a faux campfire.

The recreation centre also has a climbing wall for those feeling a little more adventurous this winter. Equipment is available free of charge, and staff can belay during open climbing times.
